FOOLS
oo“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church
00and gave himself up for her” —St. Paul
Are we all fools who sacrifice a life
00of self-absorbed excess;
00who acquiesce
0000to duty for a wife?
To assume we have a choice is just pretend
oosince men are helpless goats:
oowhen love emotes
oooowe find we’re cattle-penned
where hormones pique her soft yet nagging tone.
ooGive me my sofa and mug;
ooshe wants to hug
ooooand call my time her own.
St. Paul suggests submission ease the quarrel;
ooon this I quite agree—
ooof her to me.
oooo(Paul’s charge is clearly moral.)
But next—what seems a fool’s cure for strife:
ooI take the lesser perch
oolike Christ for his Church—
oooohe sacrificed a life. . .
